My Buffet A S/N P386, bought used sometime before WWII, developed a crack
in the upper joint ten years ago and has been pinned. The instrument plays
as well as ever. My Buffet Bb S/N 28019, bought new right after WWII, has
a small crack in the lower joint between the tenon socket and the
articulated G# tone hole (a weakness in that design). This crack has been
in evidence for 30 or more years and has never gone through to the bore,
although i've had to seal the tone hole with epoxy. My R13 A, S/N 70343
(early '60s), has no cracking.
