Maybe it is coincidence. I bought a new R13 in 1962 and it cracked down the
right side (as you play it) of the upper joint within a couple of months of
my purchase. This crack did go through the bore and through a couple of the
trill key tone holes. I've since gotten rid of it (it never played the
same). However, I have an older R13 (probably 1940's vintage - I bought it
second-hand after the other one cracked) that has never cracked through many
decades of relatively hard use. If we're compiling a list to look for
trends, there are two to add.
