Subj: [kl] Baffle scratches in mouthpieces
Date: Sun, 16 Aug 1998 13:19:07 -0400

Superficial or even moderate scratches in the baffle area have, as far as I
can tell, little effect on the playability of a mouthpiece. Scratches deeper
in the chamber are of no concern.

Even small scratches on the facing don't seem to have an appreciable
effect on response.

However, an inconsistent surface just behind the tip rail (Rough,
uneven, gouged) can produce noise in the sound, reduced legato, and squeaks.
