Which Prestige do you mean? There is the Prestige R-13, and the
Prestige RC.

Dirk

Unless there has been a change in the instrument production since
Boosey and Hawkes purchased Buffet, the Prestige has diferent wood,
the undercutting of the toneholes are different, the pads are
different, and the Prestige has a bore choice of RC and R13(which
is still not totally like the R13 regular bore). The thing I noticed
mostly besides the tonal/color differences and the different feel of
the keys, is that the Prestige plays *much* closer in tune in the
throat register and in the low notes (and for that matter, all over
the scale of the instrument) than the R13. That's why I chose the
Prestige back in 1987 instead of the 20 or so R13s that I tried. There
was really no comparison to the feel, the sound, and the pitch. Has
there been a change in production since then? I haven't played on more
than 10 - 15 R13s since then, and have played on only a few Prestiges
since then. Most Band/Music stores do *not* stock Prestige Model
clarinets because of the big difference in price.
