Subj: [kl] Clarinets...new and old

In my posting I specified that even the Prestige R13 bore model has significant benefits as opposed to the regular R13. The different wood makes the instrument resonate differently. Plus, unless the process has changed, the tone holes are at least partially done by hand on a Prestige, and the tuning is much better. Also, the keys are different...even heavier than the silver plated option on the R13. There is much to like about the Prestige R13 over the regular R13.

As far as the new horn putting the old horn to pasture, I think not. I'll just use it for different things. The wood is now more broken in on the horn I have, and it plays very well, but has settled in to the way I play. It's a treat to play certain things on *my* clarinet, as opposed to someone elses, because the keys are sitting just where I like them, the sound is comfortable and I'm used to it, etc...

On the other hand, I would like to break in another clarinet for the same reason. The new one will break in after some time, but I wouldn't have to break in one rapidly, in case of my clarinet being stolen or broken beyond repair (Heaven Forbid!) I do like to plan ahead, and having a second clarinet of the same caliber would be optimal.
