I would guess that the key is for the purpose of assisting G# trills.--in
particular the G to G#. An old Selmer clarinet that a friend of mine had in
college had a sliver key between the first and second fingers of the right
hand that opened the articulated G#--that's the extra key that I was
referring to when this string started.

I play a 1937 Conn 10M tenor. It has a key between the RH 1st and
2nd fingers. As far as I can tell, it's an alternate G# key but I
haven't discovered why I would ever want to use it. Any insight?
(I know this is a clarinet list but you guys seem to be more helpful
- and more active - than the sax list).
