Karen,

It may surprise you to know that I turned down the Close scholarship to
attend U. of Michigan on a full ride. Neither school required scales in
the auditions....but the fact that they do is not a negative. Your
question was what to play......David responded that you might consider the
Klose patterns.....I simply agreed. I also mentioned that scales may or
may not be required by an audition committee - they change requirements on
a yearly basis...depending on who is on the committee.

Good luck.....You will enjoy Bob Ponto (Director of Bands) and Wayne
Bennett (Clarinet Professor) - both are excellent teachers and musicians.
