I agree with,
I was taught, and I am a firm believer of this, that the fastest way to learn
anything is to start the metronome at half tempo (at the fastest) and work up
the runs from there. I've done that my whole career and found that to be most
efficient in memorizing where my fingers go and it helps to play more
accurately.
