If you're referring to auditions of high school seniors for
first-year admission to a music program, please name a few of
these fine teachers and institutions who do not request scale
preparation. Naturally, some panels will not ask the scales to
be performed during the audition -- if only for considerations
of time. Sometimes, it is expected that scale proficiency, as
well as evenness of technique and range, will be revealed via
performance of the assigned literature for the audition. But
it's still interesting to ponder a teacher and a school who
do not require such a student to have his/her scales prepared
for the audition, whether (s)he expects to play them or not.
Which fine teachers and schools do you know of who decline
the necessity of scale preparation for first-year applicants?

Neil
