Subj: [kl] A Clarinet Birthday
Date: Tue, 11 Aug 1998 18:00:07 -0400

Today I had the pleasure of attending a birthday party for fellow musician
and Klarinettist Larry Paikin. (I won't tell how old he is, but he can now
ride the train for half fare.).

The highlight of his celebration was the performance of a new work for
clarinet and piano by Hamilton (Ontario) composer Robert Bruce, dedicated to
Larry on the occasion of his birthday, and performed for us by the composer
on piano, and Stephen Pierre on clarinet. It is a lovely, lyrical work,
described by the composer as blues inspired.

This was a wonderful gift for an enthusiastic amateur clarinettist, and all
of my fellow guests at the surprise party felt privileged to be part of the
celebration.

You'll have to ask Larry for copies of the music.

Happy Birthday Larry! (larrypaikin@-----.net)
