If you really want to learn this piece from the ground up (as well as
impress everyone with some pseudo-scholarly knowledge. . .), check out
Cecilia Bartoli's "Rossini Arias" recording (London 425 430-2). The
theme in the clarinet version is originally from Rossini's opera "The
Lady of the Lake", and Bartolli performs it superbly; very discouraging
to hear a singer perform it more technically accurate than us
clarinetists---she also does it more musically and beautifully than we
could ever hope to.
