I hesitate to respond to this issue again - with certain people - but the
above statement is simply not true. Kevin Fay's posting was
correct....the orchestra is only concerned with:
a. Your ability to play the clarinet
b. Your professional performance experience
There is no prerequisite that a person have a degree. In fact, most
listings state something like this:
"The Los Angeles Philharmonic Auditions and Renewals committee reserves
the right to dismiss immediately any candidate not meeting the highest
professional standards at these auditions....."
Note the lack of a requirement for a degree in undergraduate performance?
St Paul Chamber Orchestra......same wording
San Francisco Symphony.......same wording
The committee don't look for a degree in music, they look for professional
playing experience.
There are many people performing in professional orchestras that have only
a bachelors degree in music education........some don't have degrees in
music at all.
