Mitch inquires:
Now back to the model. The letters "GE" are engraved on the mouthpiece;
there is no star. Mr. Gennusa wrote "GE*" on my receipt. I didn't notice
that until later. Shouryu claims that the GE's are no longer made. But, on
the ohter hand, mine lowers the pitch. My question is: which model did I
purchase?

You have the GE. If there's no star, it's the GE. When I chose the GE
from my professor's collection, I attempted to get a GE from anywhere. I
first tried Muncy's - our assist. principal had just purchased three GE's
from them. They ended up sending me a GE*. It played sharper, and
stuffier. When I measured the overall length compared to the GE, it was 3
mm shorter. I sent it back, and attempted to call every other company I
knew of to find a GE. No one had one, and Steph had bought out all the
one's Muncy had (which is why they only had *'s left). My alternative?
Attend ClarinetFest 97, which I didn't have the time off to do. I had to
pay a one day registration fee, hotel, blah blah...all so I could see Mr.
Gennusa himself. I got to the table, and there were a grand total of 4
GE's left. His entire stock. He had a MASSIVE amount of his other
models. After telling him how hard it was to find GE's, he commented
"Well, they tend to lower pitch - the GE* sells better. Perhaps I should
make some more GE's in the future, though."

I picked my mouthpiece and departed. I payed him $75, which is fairly
reasonable, IMO. However, I had to travel to do it. Expenditures for
this excursion just for the mpc totaled $250. Needless to say, I like the
mpc.

However, in April, I received a brochure advertisement for Gennusa mpcs.
The GE was not listed, only GE*, along with his other mpcs. So i guess he
doesn't make them anymore.

Okay, if you're still with me, um...well, you have a regular GE, Mitch.
