I have found that Gennusa mouthpieces play flat compared to most
mouthpieces. When I was dong by undergrad work a few years ago at
Illinois State, a member of the clarinet section in out wind ensemble
played a Gennusa mouthpiece. While she had a gorgeous sound, she was
consistanly under pitch with the rest of the section. If you
continually play sharp, you may play intune with a Gennusa. When I was
looking at purchasing a new mouthpiece I tried a Gennusa, and while I
loved the sound, I played 20 cents flat. I currently play on a Greg
Smith mouthpiece and find my set-up to be very intune--My set-up being
an R-13 with a 66mm Moening barrel and Vandoren Black Master reeds
strength 4. Something else you may want to check into is the strength
of your reeds. A lot of times the harder the reed the sharper your
pitch will be because of biting. So you may want to play around with a
softer reed, notice i say softer not older. Old reeds will not help
your pitch problems!! Good Luck!
