I'm going to steer clear of the question of whether homosexuality is
something that "cannot be helped" (which I hope means nothing more than a
genetic or inherent trait). I've listened while my gay friends debate
it--I'm not qualified to participate, but am glad that I never had to face
what our society makes a very painful issue.
I will make an observation, though--If Marty thinks being gay is anything
new, he needs to brush up on his history. Heck, even music history; Vivaldi
and Tchaikovsky are 2 examples that come to mind.

I wouldn't say it is accepted, but I think the situation has gotten better.
I don't think that you can make a comparison between homosexuality and
swearing. The former is something that we are now finding out cannot be
helped, whereas swearing is something that you DEFINITELY have control over.
I wonder how many homosexuals would welcome such a comparison?
