Would it be unfair to attribute aversion to and ignorance of serious music
(including classical and jazz) to the horrendous cuts of music education
progams over the last twenty years? Exposure to the "good stuff" is far
less widespread in schools than it used to be. At least, that's my
impression, although programs in wealthier suburbs remain strong.
