In my opinion, rap is totally a form of music. I don't listen to rap, so this
isn't a biased opinion or anything. I'll admit this isn't true of all rap
songs, but for many it is. If you really dissect the songs and listen to the
words, they tell a story. It's just a form of poerty, not necessarily bad. Not
everyone can rap, it is a great talent. as for them not having rhythm, that's
like 50% of what rap is. it's just the poetry put to rhythm and there's music
in the background. (not much music, but it's there) As for the vulgar language
in rap music, sometimes that's the only word that really rhymes, or the only
way to express what they want their song to tell. I mean, which is a stronger
statement: "please go away" or "get the hell away from me" ? (hell istn'
exactly vulgar, but i don't think we should be swearing here..) If you were
writing a story with dialogue in it, there would have to be swearing because
otherwise it wouldn't be a realistic setting. Vulgar language, while
innapropriate most of the time, does have it's place in music and literature.
Of course, when everyother word out of someone's mouth is a swear word, that
is juist a tad extreme... :-)
Also, if anyone thinks that liking a style of music or whatever will make them
a geek or nerd or whatever, they need to take a closer look at the world. (no
offense to people who think this) When people ask me what type of music i
like, i say everything. more often than you'd think people say "even
classical??" and I proudly say Yes. Be an individual. :-) being a conformist
is what makes you look more like a nerd in my book. but that's all just my
opinion. :-)
