a small comment and advertisement if I may:

I play clarinet, soprano and baritone sax in a Swing Orchestra here in
the S.E. part of Michigan. ISO (Imperial Swing Orchestra) is a 10
member:3 reeds,2 trumpet,piano,bass,drum,guitar,vocal.

The charts are either originals in the style of the great swing bands or
covers of some of the famous oldies.

We have just finished 5 days in the studio recording our first CD, and
are looking forward to a 2 hour gig at the Detroit Montreaux Jazz
Festival this fall.

The nice thing about playing swing these days is that our audience
crosses a few generations. From the young 'kids' who dress in forties
attire and follow our club dates to the older couples who REMEMBER the
big bands. While the musical content and form may be somewhat less
complicated than much of jazz, it's still good music. It reaches out and
touches our audiences and gets them moving.

By the way; for pure top quality band work check out the Brian
Setzer(sp?) orchestra..Swing played by the best of the contemporary
studio cats.

Dave G.
