Well, I'm almost comforted to know that I wasn't the only one with a
smelly, dirty room! I nearly checked out as soon as I saw the condition of
my room. One of the beds had clearly been used recently, which made me
wonder about the condition of the other beds. The towels were dirty--I
couldn't tell if they were left over from the previous guest or if they
were just naturally a dingy, gray color. The floor was sticky, and the
shower was disgusting.

I was only planning to stay for one night, so I decided to stick it out in
the dorm room. Besides, I didn't want to spend my one ClarinetFest day
driving around Columbus looking for somewhere else to stay.

While I'm in a rant mood, might as well throw this one out, too: Was anyone
besides me annoyed to learn that if you paid for just a couple of days of
the conference, you didn't get the full printed program? Due to my work
schedule, I could only attend Tuesday and part of Wednesday. While I
thought the daily registration fee was a bit steep, I was just glad that
the conference was close enough for me to drive up for a couple of days (I
live near Cincinnati). Naturally, I was pretty aggravated to learn that my
$120 (that's right--$120 for two days!) didn't buy me a copy of the
complete program--the one that listed all the biographical info about the
performers, identified the exhibitors, told you where the exhibits were,
etc. This seemed like a cheap shot to me, but nobody at the registration
table thought it was at all out of line. I tried to talk to someone "in
charge" at the conference, but was never able to track anyone down. To be
honest, I don't think I would have paid for two days had I known going in
that I wouldn't be entitled to all of the conference materials.

Done ranting, and must add that I was in clarinet nirvana during Tuesday's
performances!
