My private teacher helped me when I bought 2 of my Bbs, but not with my A. The
store I went to wouldn't allow me to take the clarinet to my lesson or pay for
it with the option of returning it, and my teacher couldn't come to San
Fransisco with me, so I was kind of in a jam. It's not that I don't like the A
I bought, but I know there are much better ones out there. My parents bought
it for me, but I've started saving up for a brand new horn and next time
around I won't be taking any chances with it. I also had a problem about
picking my A because of a strange store policy: They wouldn't fix the horn
until I bought it, so I had to choose from 15 horns, which one I thought would
sound the best after being reparied. If the time issue for auditions wasn't so
big, I wouldn't have bought it. But it works, and doesn't sound bad, so after
I get used to the difference in where the fingers go, I'll experiment with
different mouthpieces and reeds and see if that could help.
