Aha! That's the missing link, for me, in understanding the explanation
previously proposed. Thank you, very much.

Tangentially, you also wrote:

Please bear in mind that lack of a plan does not at all mean a lack of
order. Interested or not, it's a world you're stuck with, unless you're
into inventing your own realities, as most humans are inclined to do.
It makes life so much nicer, at least until you butt heads with a
conflicting invented reality.
