GT--

Tim Clark has used leather pads on the bottom joints of clarinets for years. When
I bought my set of RC Prestige (that was the original Prestige model before the
R-13 Prestige), he set the horns up since he worked at Buffet. Shortly
thereafter, he moved to the Columbus, Ohio area, and set up his own shop. He was
the only person who worked on my instruments between 1985 and 1989, when I
returned to California.

At that time, I only had the Bb set-up. The leather pads he installed, although a
bit brownish, are still in the instrument today in 1998. The pads have lasted
over 12 years, and are still good.

The point is that leather pads do work, but it does take a good repair person such
as Time Clark or Clark Fobes to really get good results.
