Are clarinettists unusually generous people? I've been reading some
wonderfully informative and authoritative Klarinet digests lately, and I
almost feel as if I should be paying for it. Avrahm Galper in
particular should be declared a National Treasure (or maybe an
International Treasure, since he's in Canada), not to mention all the
other professionals on the list. What a resource!

And this summer, the principle clarinet in our community band is giving
a free two hour class every week at his home to anyone in the section
who wants to come. He's got a DMA and is a professional
musician/teacher who is, of course, a great source of knowledge on
clarinet playing. I feel like I should be leaving him a check every
time I go there, but it's all for free. I can't think of too many other
professional groups who are as generous with their time or knowledge as
this. Are musicians/artists just irrepressibly giving? Or is the
clarinet just too good an institution to keep to oneself?

Bill Edinger (currently in an uncharacteristic mood of "happy-talk")
