"A student of mine recently used my e-mail address, with permission, to
pose a question to those who are on the list. Her question was for a
descriptive comparision of the sections within the second movemnt of
Weber's Concerto No. 1. This does not have to be a 3000 word essay. Just
something imaginative.

This list is an excellent way of students, professionals, amateurs, and
teachers to all discuss various aspects of clarinet playing, performance
and musicianship. I am afraid to say that my student is quite disheartened
to know that her question has not been answered (but she has been humoured
by the pedistool debate)."

Rodger,

I don't doubt that your student would be very interested in a serious
reply to her question, but it is not the responsibility of any one on this
list to answer or respond to comments or inquiries that do not interest
them.

Everyone puts their comments forth uninvited and whether anyone else
responds is purely a matter of choice. Your student should not be
disheartened! Perhaps the question will be answered at a later date. Even
if it is not she should feel free to continue participating and enjoying
the rather free wheeling discussion that is generated on this list.

I may also point out that from my perspective (and I may be wrong)
that this is the type of question that looks a little bit like a "homework
assignment". Certainly if your student has imagination and is working on
the piece this is the type of thing she should be encouraged to do on her
own. THEN if she has a particular insight that she would like to share, or
poses a specific question about an observation , members on the list may be
more inclined to respond.
