Apparently (if I've remembered it right) Mozart was commissioned to do 2
original flute concertos. He did one but didn't have time or didn't want to
do the other (and didn't like writing for flute) so he used the oboe
concerto
instead. I don't know if anyone had performed the oboe concerto already by
then, but apparently it was lost for a long time (perhaps Mozart hid it
:-)).
