Okay, getting the chills about Mozart I can understand: 35 and into an
unmarked grave: though given the kinds of things you could die from in
1791, 35 was not unheard of. But how old was Poulenc when he wrote the
Sonata? Saint-Saens wrote his in about 1923 or '24. Considering he
premiered Samson & Dalila in 1877, and was an established presence before
that, we're hardly talking about someone who died before his time.

I believe Bernstein and Copland lived on well after they wrote for the
clarinet, folks. How long did Weber last after he wrote for the instrument
(that's a real question, not rhetorical)?
