I feel that i've had enough experience to say that teachers need to put more
effort. I teach private lessons, I have conducted and been in charge of a
beginning band at a 2 week long summer music camp. I have been the Teacher
Assistant for the instrumental music department for 2 years so it's *my* job
to do all the organizing and behind the scene stuff. I'm a group leader and
section leader for our marching band's clarinet section, and in charge of the
entire woodwind section. I am in charge of inventory for all the instruments
in storage and the uniforms. I play every woodwind instrument except for the
bassoon, and have had suffecient experience on percussion, and I've started
learning brass this summer. (and it's not like I have all day to do this stuff
since I'm an AP student taking college classes and I have a job)
When i say that teachers need to put more effort in, I don't mean every
teacher. I'm sure there are thousands of really good music teachers, but so
far i've only found one, and she teaches orchestra so I'm out of luck. I've
had teachers that scream at you for making a simple mistake, teachers that use
learning theory as a form of punnishment (that's a great thing to get into
kids heads...) from my graduating class from my middle school, I am the ONLY
student who didn't quit band because of the bad experiences we had because of
the teacher we had there.
I'm sorry If I offended anyone by my statement. But from my experience, every
word is true.

(I don't mean to put myself up on a pedistal by saying i've done this and
that. I know that I don't know everything about music and teaching and I
probably never will, but this is my opinion)
