I once attended a trombone recital given by a candidate for a master's
degree in performance where none of the music was written for trombone.
He played the Mozart bassoon concerto, the Handel concerto in G Minor for
oboe, etc., etc.
But, I'll have to confess. I played a bassoon recital where every piece
was a transcription. But, when you play bassoon, after you have played 40
or more solo recitals, you have long ago run out of original literature
that is worth playing.
