I'm new into this topic, and I don't exactly know if this has been stated
yet. But the fingering below, provided by Mr. Shilcock, is a most useful
fingering for slurring large intervals to or from high E-flat. A perfect
example of using this fingering is Brahms 1st sonata, 1st movement,
measures 8 and 9. I play the C with the left hand (of course), followed by
Mr. Shilcock's fingering for E-flat, followed by F sharp fingered like Mr.
Shilcock's E-flat with the addition of the left index finger and lifting
the pinky.

Someone earlier mentioned removing this ring. I couldn't play this passage
as smoothly as I would want to without that ring. I can't think of another
fingering that this ring is needed for off the top of my head. But I think
in this particular passage, this ring is a necessity.
