A few clarifications on my original message...

The "contest" I wish to perform the piece in the NYSSMA solo evaluation
festival. This is not a contest. No one is in competition with
eachother and the purpose of the judge evaluating your performance is
mostly for self-improvement.

This point on my own personal situation changes nothing...several
important and interesting points have been made and I think everyone who
read them has been much enriched.

The Concerto was not assigned to me. My director gave me several level
4, 5, and 6 pieces to look at. After one glance at the Mozart it was in
the back of my folder for at least a month. At camp someone let me
borrow a recording and I looked a little more at the piece, and it
looked plausible for a performance in May. I still need to take a
closer look at the Poulenc...is it really easier than it sounds? I have
played through part of it and have found it greatly difficult although
if I did that piece it would be wonderful experience. If not this year
then next year...

Thanks to all who made their points and I will take them into
consideration before deciding on a level 6 to start. I still have some
level 5's in the works that I will do for the evaluation in case the 6
does not improve as expected.

I'll keep you posted. Thanks again to all.
Mark
