Perhaps it would be productive to work through the Rubank Intermediate,
Rubank Advanced I & II and then the Baerman. I love the Rubank series but
the Intermediate really seems to be geared toward consolidating what was
learned in the Rubank Beginner book rather than in introducing anything
significantly new. (For the original poster of the question, the Rubank
Beginner book is designed for two years of fairly concentrated study. It
takes students farther than most school band methods do in the first two
years and drills them fairly intensely. It really establishes a good
foundation.)
