I have frequently found that physics equations do not always stand
true when compared to what happens in 'real life'. To answer the question
of whether or not removal of a tone hole would improve tone I would like to
ask Ed Maurey, who stated that he had patched the tone hole of the Eb
sliver key if it made any improvement?
Also, for all the teachers out there, I was not taught alternative
fingerings very well and certainly never taught when to use them. It is an
essential part of a clarinettists technique and should be taught and not
just left to the student to go and look up a fingering chart.
Sorry to add yet another email to the multitude of emails debating
this heated debate. :-)
