It's a great series for certain purposes, such as overall development in
the earlier stages. By the time a student gets into the Intermediate
method, they should be looking at other things as well.

As for guidance, you should get hooked up with a teacher; it's kind of
impossible to prescribe books without knowing exactly what your needs
