I'm one of those people with big hands who should have played tuba
instead of the clarinet. The sliver key, even on my A, gets in the
way. Years ago I developed a slick way of disabling it. I carefully
stick a little piece of tape [electrical, scotch, masking] INSIDE the
bore over the sliver's hole. I then remove the key and fill the hole
with quick setting epoxy. In ten minutes I remove the tape and replace
the key. The resulting plug precisely matches the bore. It's really
quite easy to remove the plug if you want. I just "pick" it out with
a clarinet screwdriver.
