+AHw-Is it a common practice to not use the Eb/Bb sliver key? I've never heard
of
+AHw-anybody removing it or disabling its function. That little key is
invaluable
+AHw-for chromatic scales, trills, another note. The boehm system clarinet has
+AHw-many optional key variants available - some used more than others (i.e.
+AHw-alternate LH Eb lever). I have never run across a boehm system clarinet not
+AHw-possessing the sliver key originally from the maker/manufacturer. Who out
+AHw-there condones and practices this? It would be interesting to know why.

Not being a music professional, I can't say about others, but I was always
taught to use that key for most purposes. It's efficient and easier to
remember than other chromatic fingerings (keep in mind that I'm a music
student in high school.)

Also, I would think that, in response to Fred's message after yours, it may
be at a +ACI-more comfortable ange+ACI- and use a more +ACI-facile finger+ACI-, but remember
that chromatic fingering is for right handed players. I would think that
left handed fingers, with a much more docile left index, and therefore the
sliver would become easier for them as well, would it not?
