My peg doesn't slip on the floor - it's got a rubber end on it. Sellotape
works quite well too. What does happen is that I have to do the clamp up so
tight I can't undo it because otherwise the bass slides down the peg. This
is because the peg's not 100% circular. It's also bent (this instrument
belongs to the local music school, and it's been bashed unmercifully).
Sometimes, if I twist the peg around, it will wedge itself, but more often I
have to get someone with bigger hands than me to do up and undo the clamp
for me. It's a pain, but necessary. I use a neckstrap as well if I'm using
it in an orchestral situation, but I don't bother in the pit. Too much
hassle, and as I'm usually playing alto or baritone sax, the neckstraps get
tangled, and that's a real pain when you've got a quick change.
