Actually, Bill, you've touched on something here - even more experienced
players fall prey to this idea that a harder reed is always better - that
you should play as hard a reed as you possibly can. Not true - while
playing a harder reed does yield benefits in terms of tone quality and
intonation, those benefits become moot if you can't play below FFF, or
for more than 15 minutes, or...
