The advice from Teri Herel is sound. As far as playing the clarinet, I have a
useful exercise for you.
Play sitting with bell on your knee. Wear your elastic BG strap for security
because fear of dropping the clarinet will make you squeeze. Take your right
thumb off the clarinet while playing so you can't squeeze isometrically (Thumb
against fingers). Have someone check tension by lifting gently one of your
fingers at a tme - and checking arm movability whilest you play.
It goes without saying that the clarinet must cover well. Or you'll squeeze.
