I have had much experience working with Jewel mouthpieces. Jewel Mouthpieces
are made by Dave Knox out of the Detroit area. Shelby Township to be exact.
His home phone is 810-677-9449. His pager is 810 916-6223. In addition to
playing clarinet I teach beginning band in a large school system. I start
over
40 clarinet players a year. Up until a year ago I had all of my students
start
on B45 mouthpieces, because if you don't start students on a good mouthpiece
many never upgrade. Because of the inconsistencies in manufacture and expense
I started looking at alternatives. There are many great alternatives! (Clark
Fobes makes a great mouthpiece as well as Dave Hite). I got a phone call from
Dave and he asked me to try some of his mouthpieces.

Stock models.

Comparable to the B45 is the Jewel Concert #3 mouthpiece.
The Concert mouthpiece also comes in a close lay model (labeled C).
Both of these mouthpieces are of made of rubber and play very well.

The mouthpieces below are $20.00 models:

If students can’t afford to get a good hard rubber mouthpiece, Jewel #2 (for
beginners) and Jewel #3 (requires a harder reed) are good for the average band
student. The Jewel #3 is the plastic version of the Concert mouthpiece. It
is important for students to start with quality mouthpieces

Dave developed a special mouthpiece similar to my favorite Gigilotti P facing,
but better. It's called an M facing. It plays well right up to altissimo C!
and more reeds work then on any mouthpiece I ever had. This is the mouthpiece
I use in my Alpena, Mi band program. I start kids out on 3 Mitchel Luries and
by mid year most of them are on 4's. I love them because Dave play tests
every
mouthpiece. The tone of the clarinet section is phenomenal compared to a year
ago. Intonation is greatly improved.

If you are interested in talking to Dave he's a really down to earth guy.
Tell
him Mike Moors sent you..

Enjoy the rest of summer

>>Hi everyone!
>>Remember my sob story about breaking my Gennusa mouthpiece? Well, this
>>weekend I went to Indiana (my sister is attending Notre Dame law school) and
>>went to the Woodwind and the Brasswind. I was dissapointed by their small
>>store, but then I saw the place where they are relocating, and saw the huge
>>new store. I went and tried out several new mouthpieces. I tried some
>>crystal mouthieces, but the sound wasn't as dark and big as I prefer. But I
>>found I new mouthpiece I really liked.
>>It is called Jewel, and it is a hard rubber Concert model. I was impressed.
>>It has a big dark tone, and I felt like I was playing a Pyne!!! It had even
>>intonation too. It was very rich and flexible. It retails for $75, but the
>>WW & BW is selling them for $53.50. It is like a Pyne, in my opinion,
but is
>>not the price (thank goodness).
>>Has anyone else tried this mouthpiece? I'm curious as to what others think
>>about it.
