Okay... as per Shouryu... I'll post this to the list... here it goes...

EVALUATION - Harry Hartman's Fiberreed
Tested: Tenor Sax M

On Tenor Sax (1965 Mark VI): The salesman was right. This reed is
exceptional in Jazz pieces, and any other venue which you need to have a
big, fat, loud sound. I could go throughout the range, and the lower
register was easier for me (as a clarinet player). BUT... it was very
difficult for me to keep anything below a mezzo forte sound decent. Control
drops drastically, and it's impossible to hold any note at a piano in the
lower register. Further, the Fiberreed didn't do very well into long, held,
low notes at mezzo forte. This reed was definately designed with jazz
ensembles or soloists in mind.

On Bass Clarinet (1989 low Eb Professional): One word- Amazing. I had such
clarity in the "break" keys (I've forgotten what they should be called).
Lost was that slurry F or the horrid Bb. Each note was crisp and clear. The
reed also shows it's stuff in the upper register, allowing a cleaner sound
and easier playability in the uppers. The control you have is amazingly
overwhelming over a standard Vandoren (what I use) and all dynamics are
great, although it was still an concentrated effort to get this reed to go
whispery quiet in a pianissimo. For bass clarinet, this one's a keeper.

Overall: I'll admit it, I am not that great on tenor sax, so I am not that
great a judge of reeds for tenor sax, but I will say that I didn't feel I
had enough control on the tenor sax (as I do with a standard cane reed), but
on bass clarinet, it was definately much better, for me. If you have a bass
clarinet, I'd say give it a try. You have nothing to lose. Beginners will
find it may be easier to get that nice tone every teacher wants but you can
never get. Old timers can find it's relaxing not to stress over those minor
problems. But for Tenor Saxes, I'd only recommend it for those whove played
a while or have a need for big and loud. Beginners can try, but speaking as
a person who's only played for a year (I guess that's beginner), I wouldn't.

Hope this is some help to those still deciding whether or not to buy.
