We've gone into a discussion concerning Ricos and whatnot. I'd like to branch
off of this topic with a related question, that should only require a simple
answer (I hope).
I recently aquired a box of 25 Eb clarinet reeds. They are...RICOS. But they
are very old. The box is made to look like it's wood (it has wood grains and
knot holes painted on it). It has a treble clef on a staff and RICO on the
staff. It says "25 Eb clarinet reeds". But here's the kicker: it says after
that: "created by professionals for professional superiority." It also says
"Style V". The strength (as if ti matters) is 2 1/2. On the bottom "50BH" is
stamped on it. I'm wondering how old these reeds are. Is it possible that at
one time Rico made professional quality reeds? Does the "Style V" mean it's
like Vandorens? I'm intrigued. And they do play very well, much like the
Vandorens I currently use on me Eb. I'm assuming part of that is due to the
age. If anyone has any information, I'd really be interested in learning more
about this. It's almost like stepping back in time...
