I'm sure you have a very good program. Please remember that the original
poster was suggesting that the student attend a community college but not
take music, rather "getting the general studies out of the way."
In this part of the country, there are several two-year institutions which
have music programs, but unfortunately, students who come out of them are
not very well prepared to enter the third year in a University with
fairly rigorous academic and musical standards. Such students almost
without exception find that it takes them more than two additional years
to complete a four-year degree.
I'm glad to hear that your institution is an exception to that rule.
