I apologize for starting this s#!t up again... My comment about vibrato was
mearly meant as something that one might like to do to please themselves
while practicing at home. But I must add this....

>These are all performance practice issues and you don't have much of a
choice

>agent to make up the rules as you go along and if you believe you are,
>then prepare yourself for a rocky career.
Each and every decent, successful performer is an individual that has
interpreted pieces in their own way... Every performer who makes a name for
themselves has bent the rules at least slightly. Every ensemble works
together to make their choice of what they will do, each performer having
some voice in what is said and done; and how it is done. If you don't
variate and find new ways and interpretations you will fail... The public
wants to hear something different; not the same old thing in the same old
way! This is why the clarinet has become depose; because too many clarinet
performers have foolishly chosen not to be individuals; have chosen not to
set out on their own. While the saxophone has constantly changed and
evolved to stay the most popular wind instrument in the world; the clarinet
has set around and watched it's audience and it's passion go by; simply
because it wasn't willing to change.
If you don't change and evolve; you become extinct; and I'm afraid that is
the fate that will befall the clarinet community; if we don't learn the
simple fact that "times change, people change"...
