You could easily put together a brass quintet - I'm not sure of the exact
configuration, and I have a feeling it varies anyway, so I'm sure you could
find something. Clarinet choirs are always fun - my favourite clarinet
choir piece ever is the Gordon Jacob Introduction and Rondo, but you really
need an eefer for this; the alto part is playable on Bb. There's a New
Zealander now living in Australia (Chair of WW at the Sydney Conservertoire)
by the name of Mark Walton who has published a lot of well-known music
arranged for clarinet choir and sax ensemble - I've just played his
arrangement of Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring for clt choir (4 parts plus bass),
and Pachelbel Canon for sax ensemble (AATB). They're not terribly difficult
and I don't think they're too expensive either. Unfortunately I don't have
an address - maybe any Aussies or other Kiwis on the list can help me here!
You could put a woodwind quintet together with a second flute to replace the
oboe - it wouldn't matter much, I don't think, and there's some good music
around - I heard a great arrangement of the Berlioz (?) Petite Suite the
other day. You could also replace the oboe parts in a wind octet with
flutes - Hoffmeister Serenade in Eb is a good piece, and there's a great
Beethoven as well (but it's fairly tricky), also a Hummel which is not too
difficult.
That's about all I can think of at the moment, but if I have a brainwave all
of a sudden, I'll send it on!
Hope this helps

Anna
