Lately, I have been experiencing a crackling, or staticy sound in my ears
when I play the clarinet, especially in an ensemble. I went to an
audiologist today, and had my hearing tested, the whole bit...

He told me that something I am doing while I play is causing the tympanic
nerve on my eardrum to go into spasms, thus causing the crackling noise.
He believes that it might be something to do with overcompensating my jaw????

Of course, it was difficult to explain to him what was involved in clarinet
embochure, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what jaw
movement would cause this. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Rachel Throckmorton
