I have an A clarinet I am thinking about overhauling, but am not sure if
it is worth putting a lot of money into. It is a Buffet, apparently
made in 1914 (!), and the plating on the keys is quite worn, so I'd want
to get it re-plated, which would probably add significantly to the
cost. It has a nice sound and feel to it, but I've never had it when it
was in top condition and so am not completely sure how good it can be.
It's a Low Pitch instrument, which may or may not be a pertinent factor,
and has the wrap-around register key and an open-hole, padded,
adjustable ring key over the LH third hole (C/G hole), like a flute,
which seems rather unusual. Is this worth putting $300-400 into or
should I keep saving for a new one?
