The Dorian Music Camp is at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. The cost of
tuition for one week (Sunday-Saturday) is $258, which includes dorm room and
meals, and some activities. The campus is really nice. Small and quaint.
The staff are very friendly. Lessons are $22 for two 30 minute lessons. I
did not take from the clarinet professor though, because I don't like his
teaching style (it conflicts with my prof), and I find him very rude. But
everyone else is GREAT. Everyone gets into the band, but you audition for
chair placements. Then at that time you may audition for orchestra if you
wish, where they generally take two people per wind instrument. You audition
seperately for jazz band, and madrigal choir. Anyone who wants to can sing in
the choir. Then there are piano and music theatre workshops you audition for
by sending in a tape before camp. Organ, guitar, and electronic music
workshops are open to everyone. Then there are theory classes you can take
(assuming you have time in your schedule), or conductiong classes, or jazz
improv, etc. The list goes on and on. It is a great experience.
