Well, everyone, I am back from my music camp. It went great! I made first
chair out of 24 clarinets, and got first chair clarinet in the orchestra (they
selected two). Then I made the piano chair in jazz band and sang tenor I in
the choir. I had a lot of piano solos, as well as solos in clarinet. I was
particularly fond of orchestra. We performed "L'Arlesienne Suite No. 1" by
Bizet, movements I, III, and IV. The winds sat out for "The Prayer of Saint
Gregory" by Hovhaness. Then we did "March to the Scaffold" by Berlioz (gotta
love that clatrinet solo at the end!), and finally (God forbid) "Fiddle
Faddle" by ANDERSON!
But I broke my Gennusa mouthpiece after one orchestra rehearsal; it just
slipped out of my hands and hit the ground and broke. I almost cried. So the
clarinet prof gave me the only mouthpiece he had - an M13 lyre. I hated it.
The sound was too bright and thin for my liking. It did not get along with my
Opus. But those in emergencies can't be too picky.
Anyhow, I just wanted to say I'm back, and let y'all know how it went. I look
forward to participating once more!
Chris Hoffman
