P: Play, play, play with the students! No matter what it is. This is
one of the world's greatest confidence builders. THEN have them play
alone. Play unison, thirds, harmonies, obligatos, octaves. Ear
training! Make the music fun. I always liked the Breeze Easy method
books but I don't even know if they're still around. Sueta Band is more
contemporary - my kids used it - and it works for ensembles of mixed
instruments. The mission of a music teacher is to create consumers of
"good music", so whether or not your kids go on with the instrument, at
least allow them to taste the sweetness of good classics, folk, jazz
(Jazzberry Jam for elementary comes to mind), even pops, solo or
ensemble. I envy you! Wish I had time to go back to giving private
lessons...
