My only experience as a mail order repair customer was with an oboe that I
purchased last year. It needed a complete overhaul so I sent it to the
Woodwind & Brasswind. Sue Schockey did a FANTASTIC JOB with the instrument. It
came back looking like new and playing "better than my Loree"(to quote my
oboist friend). However, the W&B took more than 6 months to complete the job.
It was worth waiting for in every respect, but I bring this up only to suggest
that your friend ask about the turnaround time no matter where she sends her
clarinet. If the local shop wants a bit more money but will get the instrument
back fast, that is worth factoring into the equation.
